Technically a territory of the United States, Puerto Rico is located east to the Dominican Republic in the northeastern area of the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the most exciting tropical spots around the world with tons of activities for the entire families. San Juan, the capital, is also modern containing restaurants and casinos making Puerto Rico the full package.

The island has the famous El Yunque National Forest as well as green mountains, stunning beaches, and breathtaking waterfalls. Basically regardless of the activity you love doing, you’ll find it in Puerto Rico be it snorkeling, diving, sailing, surfing, or even mountain climbing. El Yunque National Forest, also called the Caribbean National Forest, is a huge forest with lots to explore and beauty to enjoy.

The Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay at Vieques beach is a tourist favorite in Puerto Rico. In the morning it gives you the regular Caribbean experience but at night thanks to the 700,000+ bioluminescent dinoflagellates that live in each gallon of bay water the sky and water glow in a beautiful blue that light up the entire beach. If you don’t want to miss this incredible view then avoid going during a full moon as the glow isn’t visible then.

Another magnificent sight is El Morro (Fuerte San Felipe del Morro) which is a massive six story fortress. It was built between 1539 and 1589. It withstood two world wars to say the very least. You can enter the fortress walking its halls and mazes experiencing and learning about its history. It also makes for one of the best spots that give you a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. Also located inside the San Juan Historical Site is another fortress called Fort San Cristobal. Both are open from 9am to 6pm and entry to both costs just 5$ while entry to just one of them costs 3$. You might want to make sure to wear comfortable shoes as they’re both massive fortresses and you’ll be walking a lot.

Puerto Rico is rich in both natural beauty and history. It is one of the best tropical spots around the world for its variety of activities. If you’re an adventurer and like trying new experiences you could learn to sail or you could go diving and snorkeling exploring the beauty beneath the surface. If you’re into history then you can visit the San Juan Historical site. At night you can enjoy the restaurants and casinos at San Juan.
